Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) is a browser-based tool for collecting both high risk and non-high risk data. Illinois REDCap launched on campus in May of 2019 and is currently utilized by users from over 60 departments, including over 100 principal investigators. Access to the software is provided at no cost to faculty, staff, and students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

"One of the great things about REDCap is they're always adding new features that will really help our researchers," said REDCap Application Specialist Michelle Lore. In a recent upgrade, REDCap introduced the Multi-Language Management Module that provides a framework to create and display multiple languages for surveys, forms, and communication with participants. "This will streamline research conducted in multiple languages and make the data-cleaning stage much easier," said Lore. The module provides a platform for the inclusion of translations and allows participants and researchers to select their preferred display language on a survey or data entry form. A research participant's language preference can also be applied to survey invitations, reminders, and other email communications REDCap sends on behalf of the research team. It is important to note, however, that this module does not translate content or check for translation accuracy.
