Illinois REDCap now offering texting capabilities with Twilio

Illinois REDCap users now have more options to communicate with survey participants using Twilio. Twilio is a low-cost, third-party platform for communicating with individuals via SMS text messages and phone calls.

With the integration of Twilio, researchers can now securely text survey links and reminders to research participants directly through REDCap. In some circumstances, Twilio also allows for surveys to be conducted through a voice call or via text message conversation.

The Illinois REDCap team is enthusiastic to offer this new feature to help users overcome common challenges in conducting their research, including participant adherence, retention, and access.

"With more ways to stay in touch, we hope Illinois REDCap users will be able to recruit and retain a wider array of participants," said Michelle Lore, REDCap Applications Specialist.

If you’d like to try Twilio for your REDCap project, start by setting up a paid Twilio account and following the instructions on How to Use Twilio in REDCap.
