As part of our commitment to continuous learning and professional development for health researchers and innovators at Illinois and beyond, the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute (IHSI) is pleased to announce a new webinars page, an online hub highlighting a comprehensive collection of educational and training opportunities at IHSI. Crafted to cater to a diverse audience, from student researchers to seasoned faculty, IHSI webinars feature multidisciplinary experts, covering a wide range of topics in health science and innovation.

IHSI’s webinar page provides access to more than 30 recorded webinars as well as upcoming events. You can filter webinars based on your interests, including engaged research, grants and funding, health equity, research data, and partnerships, delving into accompanying stories that provide further background, resources, and perspectives.

IHSI offers specialized courses, programs, and research experiences designed to foster innovation and growth within the Illinois research community. The Community-Engaged Research Series and National Institutes of Health (NIH) Grant Writing Series are two popular event series that provide researchers with skills and resources to enhance research impact at Illinois. Both can be found on the new webinars page.

The Community-Engaged Research Series, launched in Fall 2023 and hosted in partnership with the Center for Social & Behavioral Science (CSBS) and College of Education, aims to build and enhance the experience of community-engaged researchers. The first year of the series attracted more than 300 researchers from 120 departments and 14 colleges across the Illinois campus.

“The response to the Community-Engaged Research Series has been great,” said IHSI Research Development Manager Celina Trujillo. “We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the breadth and depth of resources for community-engaged research that we have been able to provide through this series."

The biennial NIH Grant Writing Series, led by Illinois faculty who have a demonstrated history of success with NIH proposals, has prepared early-career faculty at Illinois to submit their first R01 or other individual investigator proposals to the NIH since 2015.

Helen Corley Petit Associate Professor of Psychology Catharine Fairbairn participated in the NIH Grant Writing Series Mentorship Program in 2016.

“The NIH Grant Writing Series is a tremendous gift to grant writers at Illinois,” Fairbairn said. “The NIH can feel like a real mystery for first-time grant writers – and even to old-timers – because many of the rules are unwritten and mentorship can be hard to find. This series gave me the information and the on-campus connections I needed to turn my grant into a success."

IHSI webinars allow you to explore valuable content at your own pace and revisit key points as needed. We’re excited to share these resources with our community, providing access to valuable insights and information at any time.
