Wawrzyniec Dobrucki, professor in the Department of Bioengineering, and his Fall 2016 BioE 498/598 (Preclinical Molecular Imaging) students recently took tours of the imaging facilities at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. The students were given an inside look at the different imaging modalities that are used in the clinical setting.
Tor Jensen, director of the Biomedical Research Center at the Mills Breast Cancer Center at Carle, arranged for the student tours. Carle staff Kelly Oppe, director of radiology, Anne Finfrock, imaging manager, Lindsay Inskip, imaging coordinator, and Travis Taylor, imaging manager, provided the students with information about the equipment and fielded questions. It was an excellent opportunity for the students to see a CT, MRI, and PET/CT in action, learn about challenges with the modalities, and start thinking about applications to their work.
