Mayo Clinic and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have a long standing partnership, and we are now offering internships to give you a unique opportunity with some of the most talented and experienced Research, Biomedical Informatics and IT specialists at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
As an intern, you will focus on projects enabling discovery and translation of research ideas into clinically viable solutions that directly impact patient care. Projects will provide experience in Bioinformatics Algorithm use and development as well as Statistical Modeling and Analysis Software Development. Past projects include: Optimization of Next-Generation Sequencing pipelines, Algorithm development for genomic analysis, Data-mining of genomic data and we have many new and exciting projects in the works.
Interns should expect technical tasks that may include programming, script writing, system administration and other IT related tasks. The intern will receive direction from IT management, leads, and project managers. Successful interns must show personal initiative in assigned tasks, possess a strong interest in furthering analytical and design skills while working in a structured environment, coupled with strong interpersonal, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills. The internship is 10 to 12 weeks in duration, though longer engagements are also possible.
Qualifications: The qualified student must be enrolled in an accredited Bachelors, Masters or PhD computer-science or engineering program, have completed the first year of that program and is looking to gain practical work experience. The student must be skilled using personal computers, Microsoft Office applications, web development technologies, relational database, Unix/Linux, procedural and/or object oriented programming languages, scripting languages and SQL.
