Community-Academic Scholar: Graciella Abbey (she/her)
Project: Graciella worked with Professor Ruby Mendenhall, and Unity in Action Magazine on the Nobel Project, a unique ecosystem that will nurture future computer scientists in industry and the academy. The Nobel project will use a radical model of intergenerational outreach and education to create DREAM and wealth incubators where all members of the community see, understand, and feel that they can contribute to computer science and health innovation. Mentor reflection: Professor Mendenhall enjoyed working with Gabriella this summer. "She has a passion and gift for telling the story of young people," said Mendenhall. " I would like other faculty to know that the Community-Academic Scholars program is a key resource for summer support. Graciella was able to work independently and in a team to create a wonderful story about the STEM Illinois Nobel project. She has helped the team to do important interviews and editing work that would have taken months to do. I wholeheartedly recommend participating in this Community-Academic Scholars program."
